Delhi Hotels

31/10/07

Delhi Hotels are generally on the costly-side, comparable in price with many major cities in the world.
Prices given below are indicative only and quoted in Australian dollars and based on room rate only.
At the time of writing, most hotels were converting their rates from US to Indian Rupees because of the shrinking value of the US dollar.
Conversely, at the end of 2007, the Australian dollar was enjoying its highest ever parity against both the US and the Rupee.
However the next 12 months are unpredictable.

When you come to book your chosen hotel with me, the final cost will include a private airpot transfer on arrival, daily breakfast and all applicable gvernment and service taxes.

RECOMMENDED HOTELS IN DELHI

DELUXE 5 Star+ with Room rates starting at $500-$900+

The Imperial

Highly recommended by Marieke for ambience, location, and romantic evocation of times past. “My hotel of choice!”

On Janpath very central and close to Connaught Place.

Lutyens conceived the Imperial as the most luxurious hotel in his New Delhi, a blend of Victorian, colonial and informal Art Deco. It still works - an impeccable place, very redolent of the Raj with wide passageways replete with wonderful art, lithographs, original photos. The gardens and terraces provide an oasis of quiet after being busy in the city. (The Imperial was the first amongst the legendary “Four Maidens of the East”, which some say included The Strand hotel in Rangoon, Raffles Hotel in Singapore and the Great Eastern & Oriental in Calcutta.

From the time The Imperial opened its doors in the 1930s, when India was beginning to write the last chapters of its saga on independence, there was little space in New Delhi for an Indo-British rubbing of shoulders. The Imperial provided such a space. Pandit Nehru, Mahatama Gandhi, Muhammad Ali Jinnah and Lord Mountbatten would meet at The Imperial under congenial conditions to discuss the partition of India and creation of Pakistan.

The Imperial’s pillared verandahs, dining rooms, tea lounges, Royal Ballroom and cool and spacious gardens became the venue of many celebrated encounters between the British and Indian aristocracy and gentry.) Outdoor swimming pool, though not often open in winter.
